The Asklepion, one of the most important archaeological sites on Kos, was an ancient medical center. It is believed that Hippocrates received his training here. After exploring the altars, temples, and patient care areas, we’ll enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the city of Kos from the highest point of the site.
Next, we will board our bus and head to the Roman Odeon, a small theatre from the Roman era, and begin our walking tour to see the nearby Ancient Gymnasion and its beautiful mosaics.During our walk, we’ll pass by the Defterdar Mosque, the ruins of the Ancient Agora, the Gazi Hasan Pasha Mosque, and the Neratzia Castle, built by the Knights of Saint John, which we will view from the outside.
We’ll then take a break under the shade of the legendary Tree of Hippocrates, where according to legend, Hippocrates taught his students. In front of this enormous plane tree stands a marble fountain built by Gazi Hasan Pasha in the 18th century.
We’ll conclude our tour amidst the historical atmosphere of the square, surrounded by local cafés and souvenir shops.
